First Direct, Virgin Media, the AA, Vodafone, the Halifax and the Prudential have withdrawn their ads from Facebook because they can’t stop them being shown on pages promoting the BNP.
And good on them in my opinion. I myself am firmly of the belief that the BNP is racist, fascist and socially unacceptable in today’s society. But then again, the same could be said of a certain right-wing tabloid newspaper.
Yesterday, in a cinema, I saw an advertisement for the Mail on Sunday. Which promotes the same intolerant, staid and medieval views that the BNP does. In my opinion, the Daily Mail is equally as bad in this case as the BNP.
I will finish with a quote from this week’s Mock the Week (BBC2 Thursdays), referring to the BNP’s manifesto promise to bring back National Service.
I myself would bring back National Service, but only for the old people. ‘Cause they’re the ones that want it…
…I think it’s a stupid idea. If you’re nineteen, your hormones are going all over the place, the last thing you need is a gun.
