Weird Website of the Week

Long-time readers of this website might remember the Website of the Week awards, which were presented weekly to websites I considered to be the creme de la creme of the Internet.

However, in September 2007, they were suspended following claims of rigging via abnormal amounts of Stilton Cheese. And now, dear readers, I have an important revelation to make to you concerning that.

It was a joke.

However, in true phone-vote-rigging fashion, the Website of the Week has returned, but in a different form. It will now showcase the most bizarre websites I have found on the Internet.

Which brings me to this week’s winner. Most E-commerce websites exist to sell you something. They might try to sell you clothes in general. They may sell hats only. They may even be exclusively reserved to gentlemen’s hats.

But never have I seen such a niche covered as that covered by TheFedoraStore.com. I came across it whilst searching for the Fedora Linux distribution. And, strangely enough, it sells fedoras. As in the variety of hat.

It gets better. There are some strange little quirks on the front page that amuse me, such as the fact that it boasts it is ‘Disabled American Vetran Owned and Operated’. Now, well done to them for being able to work and produce such fine hats after their experiences in the military. However, that has no bearing on whether or not I will buy a hat from them.

I was also in fits of giggles after looking at the ‘design-a-hat’ page. Try and guess what they call the grey colour. Grey? Graphite? Smoked? No. Banker Grey.

Surely this is insulting to bankers in suggesting that all bankers are dull, grey and boring? Perhaps I’m being picky. Perhaps bankers reading this would like to console themselves by purchasing a hat.
